Step 1

Turn key electronics on first

Before testing, turn on the devices that most influence your electrical environment, especially computers and televisions.

This gives you a more realistic reading and helps you place filters where they will do the most work.

Tip

Take your first readings only after normal-use devices are on, so the numbers reflect real conditions.

Step 2

Start with TVs and computers

Place two filters where each computer and television is located. Plasma TVs may need three if the meter supports that decision.

Starting here often lowers readings throughout the home and can reduce the total number of filters needed.

Tip

If these devices are already on a power strip, this is usually the fastest first placement.

Step 3

Test one outlet at a time

Choose a room, plug the Microsurge Meter into one half of the receptacle, and note the GS reading before adding a filter.

Why this matters

A repeatable outlet-by-outlet method keeps the installation simple and makes results easier to compare.

Tip

A bedroom is often an easy starting point, but any room works if you move outlet by outlet.

Step 4

Add one filter to the other half

Plug one filter into the other half of the same outlet, then check the new meter reading.

At this stage, the percentage drop matters more than trying to force the reading under 50 GS immediately.

Tip

Stay with one filter during the first pass. Do not stack extras too early.

Step 5

Keep it only if the reading drops enough

If the reading drops by 20% or more, leave the filter installed. If it does not, remove it and move to the next outlet.

This rule keeps the installation based on measured improvement instead of guesswork.

Tip

If the reading is still above 50 GS but you reached a 20% drop, leave one filter there and continue the first pass.

Step 6

Finish the home, then recheck

Continue through the rest of the home, including basement, garage, and any powered outbuildings. Save the kitchen for last.

Why this matters

Kitchen outlets are high-use and are usually easier to handle after the rest of the home is complete.

Tip

Only add a second filter to an already filtered outlet if that extra filter creates another 20% or greater reduction.

Special cases

Answers without cluttering the main flow.

If the meter reading goes up after you add a filter to the other half of the outlet, that usually suggests a shared neutral. Use two power strips or tees, one for each half, then test each half separately. Keep a filter on a given half only if that side produces a 20% or greater reduction.
If a receptacle is controlled by a wall switch, install the filter only in the always-live portion. Otherwise, switching the outlet off removes the filter from the circuit.
If readings remain above 50 GS after proper installation, the issue may be incoming dirty electricity from nearby properties or waveform amplitude rather than missing filters. In some homes, an electrician may install an outlet near the main breaker panel on the opposite phase so filters can be added there.

Important warnings

Unplug filters when running on generator power. The filter capacitance can interfere with the generator’s voltage regulator.

Grid-tied solar or wind systems may require more than 20 filters. Off-grid solar or wind systems are not recommended for this product.

If outlets are limited, standard tees or power strips can make installation easier.
