An Electrical Career That Started in the Air Force

Dave Stetzer’s electrical and electronics background began while serving in the United States Air Force.

According to his company biography, he attended electronics school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 1971 and later worked diagnosing, maintaining and repairing sophisticated electronic equipment.

After his military service, Stetzer entered the electrical industry and eventually founded Stetzer Electric.

His professional work included industrial power control, municipalities, motor-control centers and power-quality troubleshooting.

Over time, power quality became an increasingly important focus.

Enter Professor Martin Graham

A major turning point came through Stetzer’s collaboration with Martin H. Graham, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley.

Graham had an extensive engineering background and was an IEEE Fellow. Stetzer Electric credits Graham with playing an instrumental role in researching electrical pollution and helping develop both the Microsurge Meter and Graham-Stetzer Filters.

Together, Graham and Stetzer worked on practical tools that could make power-quality concepts accessible outside industrial settings.

The result was a two-part system:
